The ecological actions in Gymnasia 77
Ecological Education is very urgent now. We face environmental problems that threaten our life. That’s why our English classes in April were devoted to the Environment and its protection. First we were afraid that it would be dull and tiring. People have been speaking about Ecology all the time but it may seem that nothing is being done.
Is it so or not? What can we do not to harm the Nature? What rules and laws should people actually create to stop barbaric actions? What can the young generation do to make their life safer? These were the questions the teachers and students were trying to solve.
The other aim (I mean, teacher’s one) was to make students speak English as much as possible. I think we managed to do it. The finale was the lesson in the form of Ecological conference. Of course, there was a lot of preparation, it was a difficult job but the students made it worthwhile. It was wonderful watching them speak in public, we had a lot of guests at our class. The students seemed to like their conference, too. These are their impressions and opinions after the conference:
“It was terrific. We understood that we can do many things: interview people, make researches, speak English. We used a smart panel, it’s interesting and new for us”- Masha Nikiforova, our expert on air pollution, wrote in her composition.
“I was worried but everything was so simple and understandable. I told some words about water pollution, next time I’ll try to sound more interesting. May be I’ll do some more researches”, - Veronica Starostenkova was too strict to herself but her notes about the ecological conference were optimistic.
“I think that our school ecological conference was interesting and useful. Interesting because it was totally in English. It’s cool to realize that you can speak English in public. Of course we were training before. Useful because we learnt new facts” - Timur Gelmendinov tried to be laconic and factual.
Usually in April the Day of Earth is held in our gymnasia. His year we cleaned surroundings near gymnasia, sand beach on the Volga river, forest near our town, planted some exotic flowers in our Garden of Peace in the hall of gymnasia.
Most of all this year we held “The best trash bin” contest. Students made unusual and designed trash bins.
Our students are the most creative ones. Each of these Bins is an art work.
